Supernatural Season 1 Tv Review

Back to one of my favourite shows again, even though I already posted a review for Supernatural’s 14th season I still wanted to go back to the beginning and do reviews in order of season as much as I can. So without further ado, I must say it was a very strong first season of a show that started all the way back in 2005. It had a lot of pretty scary monsters that could send some people running and give a few nightmares probably, but it was still great television. The first season had a good storyline and I really like how they stuck to the backstory of the Winchester’s lives. The season had a lot of mystery in it about things that made it really interesting, where their father was, what happened to their mother, things like that. I like how it really pulls you into the lives of the two brothers and leaves you wanting to watch more and more. Most of the time when I hear about new people starting to watch the show, they say that they binged the entire show or all the seasons that were out at the time in a short period of time. I myself did the exact same thing, binging all available seasons that were on Netflix. Now to get into my list of favourite episodes.

First on my list is of course the very first episode of the entire show 1.01 “Pilot”. It had a great introduction to the season storyline with showing viewers how the Winchester’s got into hunting in the first place because of the death of their mother. The episode had a classic urban legend monster, the Woman in White, to start off the show. It also had a cliffhanger to the episode that set up the rest of the season with the brothers hunting together once again trying to avenge their mother and Sam’s girlfriend while also trying to find their father. Next on my list is episode 1.03 “Dead In The Water”, this episode had a monster that has been used a lot in the show but of many

different people, that monster being a ghost. Something I really liked about this episode was that it showed the caring side of Dean who instantly bonded with Lucas, and that same side being the side of Dean that took care of his little brother for so many years. The episode had a few funny moments in it and a few heartwarming ones which are always nice to see in an episode of Supernatural. I also liked seeing the quick bond that formed between Dean and Lucas, in my mind it’s the big brother in Dean wanting to protect the little boy.

The third episode on my list of favourites is episode 1.05 “Bloody Mary”. Now, I’m sure most people would have probably already heard of the Bloody Mary legend before they watched this episode. Me I used to make little ghost looking things out of tissue paper and put red marker on it for Halloween decorations at school for the door decorating contest. In this episode it showed some more of the brotherly bond between Sam and Dean which I liked to see, especially in the beginning because it immediately set the tone of the show being about family. The episode also had viewers a little curious or a lot curious about what was happening with Sam’s nightmares and the secret he had that he wouldn’t tell his own brother about.

The fourth episode on my list is episode 1.09 “Home”. This one was quite emotional at some points and had a lot of things it. The episode showed more of Sam’s nightmares that are now visions of things that are going to happen that apparently have something to do with the yellow eyed demon who killed their mother. It showed more of their past and how much it still has an effect on Dean. I absolutely love Missouri Mosley, she is one of my all-time favourite characters. Some more things to question about what Mary’s ghost meant about being sorry. I thought it was interesting how they paralleled Sam telling Sari to take her little brother Richie outside, just like John told Dean to do with Sam. And then, the big cliffhanger at the end of the episode with John being at Missouri’s house when the boys were there and not telling them where he was.

Next on my list of favourites is 1.12 “Faith”. Now if you’re a fan of the show, you know that the Winchester’s have had many close encounters with death and have died multiple times. And if I’m not mistaken this was the first time they came quite close to death. Something I liked about this episode was that it showed viewers just how much Sam and Dean will do for each other. This episode showed a lot about Dean and who he is. The sixth episode on my list is 1.14 “Nightmare”, in this

episode it showed some more about the psychic children who have powers like Sam does. Although this time it’s someone who has telekinetic abilities and is using them for bad instead of good. The episode showed some more of the protectiveness in Dean towards Sam. And Sam’s visions are getting stronger and more intense.

The seventh episode on my list is episode 1.17 “Hell House”. The episode introduce viewers to The Ghostfacers. Now if I am being completely honest, I didn’t like the Ghostfacers when they first appeared, little less dislike now but still not something I like to watch. I thought this episode was really funny and I enjoyed watching it a lot. I liked seeing the brotherly banter between Sam and Dean, it makes it more relatable because I have 3 siblings myself and we banter a lot. It was a different kind of monster than the Winchester’s have faced before because things keep changing with it. Also I thought it was funny how they had the little Kansas album easter egg kind of thing in the episode, even though they hadn’t used the Kansas song “Carry On My Wayward Son” as there official/unofficial theme song for the show. Next on my list is 1.19 “Provenance”, I really enjoyed watching this

episode and I loved Sarah. It was interesting and nice to see Sam get the girl I guess, and I love the relationship between Sam and Sarah. It had a few funny moments in it which is always good to see. And I have to say the ghost was pretty gruesome, the backstory to it and what it does to the victims.

The last episode on my list of favourites is 1.22 “Devil’s Trap”. The very first season finale in Supernatural history and it did not disappoint. This episode had a lot of things packed into it. The yellow-eyed demon possessed John and even holy water doesn’t work on him. Meg was back but then she got sent back to hell, unfortunately for the girl she was possessing who didn’t make it. But that is definitely not the end of the character Meg. Sam chose Dean over his father when making the choice of killing John to kill the yellow eyed demon or saving John life, which just showed even more how close the two brothers are and how important family is to them. This episode also introduced viewers to a very very important character, Bobby Singer. I adore Bobby so much and if you don’t, then that’s your opinion but I will disagree with you very much. And then the big cliffhanger finale setting up the next season which they continued to do throughout the show, the impala getting slammed into by a semi-truck with Sam, Dean, and John inside of it, leaving them in pretty bad condition.

Even though I have said it multiple times, I’m still gonna say it again. If you haven’t seen Supernatural yet I would highly, highly, highly, highly recommend watching it, give it a try. It is truly an amazing show with a lot of great things in it and a pretty awesome family that comes along with it #SPNFamily.
